The Design
“A lacy taste test!”
In one generous scarf, we’ve served up three of our favorite lace patterns. Each motif syncs up beautifully where they transition. Great practice for newer lace knitters—a relaxing walk in the park for the more experienced. Follow our recipe or vary the amount of each stitch to taste.
We knit the Lace Sampler Scarf in fingering-weight Isager Alpaca 2.
This four-page pattern includes:
- Color photography by Laura Gehring
- Special Techniques
- Swatching for Gauge & Fabric in Lace Pattern
- Easy-to-read charts for Van Dyke, English Mesh, and Diagonal Lace pattern stitch
- Instructions for blocking and finishing your piece

GAUGE
Approx. 24 sts/33 rows = 4"/10cm in each lace motif, after blocking and resting.
KNITTER'S NOTES
Different lace motifs may yield different gauges on the same needle size. We recommend swatching in each lace pattern as instructed in the pattern. Give your swatch plenty of time after drying to rest. Often, lace has a tendency to bounce back.
When working with lace patterns, we like to use needles with long, tapered tips to help with decreases. And because it can be easy to miss an increase or decrease, we like to count our stitches often to make sure we're still on track.
