Swingy Linen Skirt Pattern
The Design
“In 11 sizes & 2 lengths.”
Elegant and easy care, our knitted linen skirt comes out softer—and swingier—every time you toss it in the washer and dryer. We've adapted our original 'Flouncy Linen Skirt' to two silhouettes: A fluid mid-calf length with a longer flounce, and a breezy knee length with a flippier flounce. Why not one of each?!
Use your hip measurement to choose size; this skirt is designed to skim your hips with little or no ease. If your actual hip measurement is between sizes, go down a size—the fluidity of the linen fabric will accommodate the difference.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS
US 5 (3.75mm) 24"/60cm circular needle plus set of double-points in same material for swatching, or size to obtain gauge; plus 32-40"/80-100cm needle in gauge size to accommodate larger number of stitches in flounce.
Extra 24"/60cm circular needle, gauge size or smaller, as stitch holder for waistband finishing.
US G-H (4-5mm) crochet hook for provisional cast-on.
Stitch markers: 8 ring markers plus 8 locking markers (one of each type should be a different color to denote beginning of round).
3/4"/2cm non-rolling elastic: Waist measurement plus 2"/5cm.
Large safety pin, sewing needle and thread, to insert and join elastic.
Blunt darning needle to finish.
GAUGE
24 sts/30 rounds = 4"10cm on gauge needle, after machine washing and drying.
KNITTER'S NOTES
It is very important to use the same needle finish (bamboo, metal) when you do your swatch as you will when you knit your skirt. You can swatch in the round using the suggested DPNs, two circulars or one long circular for magic-loop. We liked using needles with a more slippery finish and pointier tip.
Make note of your unblocked gauges - both stitches and rows are very important here! We even suggest that you make two tubular swatches, launder one, and keep the other as a reference for your unwashed knitting.
When drying your swatch (and, afterward your finished skirt), make sure the piece is completely dry coming out of the dryer. This will be your finished, blocked gauge. Your skirt may look out of shape immediately out of the dryer - no worries, though, pull down until you get the right length, then press with a hot iron to set it in place.
It's quite simple to customize your skirt length -- for styling, for your body type, or because your blocked row gauge is different than our specified row gauge. We've included step by step instructions to work in your additional length.
