Its clean lines—no visible edging treatment, no cuff, and nearly no visible shaping—are perfect for sublimely soft, squishy yarns that produce dense, delicious fabric. It just feels good. And it’s a free pattern!
The Minimalist Hat is a pleasure to knit in Rowan Alpaca Soft DK—a wonderfully soft blend of merino and alpaca. Four-plied and DK-weight, Alpaca Soft DK is lightweight, warm, and bouncy. The firm fabric has great stitch definition and a nice drape—just what we like in a slouchy hat.

FINISHED SIZE
19"/48cm around (fits 20-23"/51-58cm head); approx. 10"/25cm deep for shorter slouch or 12"/30cm for longer slouch.
Follow instructions for DK- weight version.
YARN
Rowan Alpaca Soft DK (137 yds/125m each)
Shorter version: 2 skeins or approx. 180 yds/165m.
Longer version: 2 skeins or approx. 240 yds/219m. See knitter's notes.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS
US 6 (4mm) 16"/40cm circular needle and set of 5 double-points or size to obtain gauge.
